Editing
January 25, 2008
I learned a lot from class and work-shopping today. If I were to edit my “I Love Lucy” movie I would work on more effectively using black space rather than constantly having image shown. I would also consider removing the scene where the words “hate it” flash. I would replace this with black space or I would try to use text effectively in other parts of the movie.
I have learned a great deal from this project. I learned that there needs to be some connecting theme through the piece. The movie doesn’t work as well if there are just different images used. But there is a fine line with the use of repetition. Too much repetition and your piece will be boring. I think repeating images and changing them as you repeat them can work very well. I think this lesson also applies to words as well.
I also learned to look for shape and color in the images. If an image has bright colors then it is important to ask why you are using an image like that at that point. Or if the image is black and white, what does that mean for the piece as a whole? I am really working to use images to tell the story in and of themselves.
I am working to bring all of these lessons to my final piece. I have used repetition in the writing and with the images that I hope works well to provide greater meaning to the piece. Right now my biggest problem is the ending. Ending a piece is the hardest part. I am hoping that I can use what I have learned thus far in this class to help me successfully end this piece. I plan to work on this tmrw.
